is it fall yet?

The title of this post seems to be a common sentiment of many recently. Where is that fall at??? The calendar and weather need to sit down and coordinate better because they are tricking everyone! I am already in full on fall mood and therefore going to talk about a fall wardrobe must have.

The over the knee boot has always been a trend to sneak up in a colder season and then fall behind (pun very intended) for consecutive seasons until it is rediscovered once again. I have never owned over the knee boots, but only observed in awe as one of my fashion icons (and pseudo aunt) strutted her pair with full confidence. I was a little reluctant to buy my own only due to the boldness that this trend would require. Why is that so? Most outfits that are worn with these shoes are shorter to show a little skin on the lower thigh before the boots began on the upper knee. I do not know why, but this made me feel awfully scandalous. Realizing how ridiculous that was, I broke out of my shell and bought a pair of my own. I opted for a black suede version with a thicker heel and prominent stitching (as seen in pics below). My most comfortable self in these boots is with black skinny jeans and the new sweater I have been dying to wear despite the 80 degree heat. But I have pushed myself to wear a quarter-lengthed sleeve navy and black floral dress that hit a few inches from where the boot rim begins. And I am not going to lie, I love it. I will post pics of that ensemble in a later post due to the short amount of time I am writing today. I just had to get this trend out there so you can start to track down your own pair!

I was looking at the weather for the rest of this week and October should be bringing some cooler temps with it (she says very hopefully!!!). Do you have any fall trends you are looking forward to wearing? Email me your ideas so I can post my own twist on them. I also want to see your over the knee boot outfits for my own inspiration. As they say, it takes a village to make a blog. Or something like that.

grid work.

So this is the second time I am writing this blog post because the first draft got deleted. I will try to recreate it like this is the very first time these words are being typed! Before today's blog post, I would like to talk about some very exciting things happening on allthingscoco. The first, and most obvious, is the new layout. Trust me, this is still very much under construction. Yet, I could not resist to blog before it was completed. Look around the new site and tell me what you like and what needs to go. Even though it is not there yet, I am very happy with the direction my page is heading towards!

Another exciting opportunity presented to me was to begin advertising for brands that I love. Even though this is a huge privilege, blogger has suggested that I modify my posts a little bit. They would like me to widen out in the variety of my writing. This would entail posting about my adventures, beauty, food, random thoughts and of course, fashion! I do not know how to feel about this yet, so tell me what you think! Should I stick to what I know and love primarily? Or should I change it up?? Ahh so exciting! Change can be good, and I will keep all of you updated with any decisions I make.

But for now, let's talk fashion baby! This week I want to share a pattern that I am currently obsessed with- grid. I have picked two out of my collection of this patten (which is growing fast!!). The first is an ivory high-low button up. The lines in the grid pattern are a strong with a little bit of messiness in between. Even though the grid is very prominent, the lines are not too strict. It just adds to the slouchiness and ease of this top. It is also a very light material which is perfect for the transition from summer to fall (the ultimate struggle). The only downfall for messy coco is that is it dry clean only (ugh!).

The second piece is a thicker grid pattern layered on a waist length jacket. This grid is definitely less structured than the first, giving it a spin on the simple trend. The gold detailing adds more edge to the clean lines. Because it zips diagonally, it has more dimension and causes the side flaps to lay beautifully.

Those are just two options of the many out there in retail wonderland. Search for your look and show coco how you make grid work! Can't wait to hear from you all! Much love.

Gold accessories pair perfectly with gird. My shoe choice is my new slip on flats with gold detailing on the heel and a bold cheetah print. Mixing patterns is something I try to experiment with, and grid pattern makes it way to easy!

The leather detailing on the shoulders and sleeves coupled with gold zippers on the pockets makes this look edgy yet clean. Layered underneath is my rather obnoxious Van Halen tee. Who doesn't love a huge eagle to wear front and center?  Oh, and turquoise rings are never a bad idea.

simply me.

I think people take simplicity for granted. When the large majority hear the word "simple," cheap or plain are most likely synonyms that are close behind. While styling my own wardrobe lately, I have been finding that I am slowing changing in my own views of that word. Simple to me means clean. Simple to me means uncomplicated. That is what I strive to be and that theory is starting to peak through every little hole in my jeans.

This is not what I though fashion was before. I thought it meant layers and patterns and stilettos, which I still live by, yet I am noticing my own self taking a turn. Isn't that kind of scary and beautiful at the same time? I am starting to see that Coco can be avant-garde while loving the small details all the same. That is the fun of being 19. I can encompass everything that I want to be, not matter how diverse, all in this 100 pound body. So today, I am here to tell you about the simple side of Coco, a side I am particularly fond of at the moment.

Free People has been my utmost enemy/best friend over the past few weeks. They just put new items on sale that you have to go search through! That brand is one of my favorites because it gives a lot of variety in style choices while sticking true to themselves. My new favorites can be found below. The purchases started with that pretty angled lace blouse I am wearing. If I can give any advice about sheer lace tops, it would be to wear a nude tank. Any other color just takes away from the simple effect. The lace pattern is intricate yet gorgeously effortless. Layered on top is a hunter green knit sweater. This warm color compliments the ivory of the top, keeping within the darker color family. I was going to wear my all time favorite black skinnies, but felt the boyfriend jeans keep the flow of the oversized and comfortable vibes going. I think the lighter wash lightens up the outfit since I am still living in a very warm September. I didn't want to overwhelm with heavy jewelry since I am trying to keep the outfit smooth and clean. One little accent nicely added is one of my favorite necklaces- the layered eagle. I love the little turquoise stone, as well as the accompanying pendant.

As I have recently learned, it is ok to have more than one so called "style." You can be you in however many different trends you choose to follow. Fashion can be your way of expression just as art or music or even blogging are for others. Luckily, Coco falls into two of those categories. I have too much to express obviously! Let me know what your definition of simple is and what you think of the latest look. Oh, and one more thing, before you look below and are shocked: I am a blonde!

Isn't this lace detail unbelievable?
