Waking up to a rainy day is the love of my life. It is an opportunity to play houdini. Magically, in the dead middle of summer, I can pretend it is plenty dreary to dust off all the colder season pieces I have been longing for. Fortunately, today was one of them. Lightning woke me up around 6 am, and I am pretty sure it struck my heart because I think it skipped a beat.
Even though I was drawn to the black side of my closet to match the glooming clouds around me, I found a way to fuse together the season I was actually living in with the one I would prefer to be. My boyfriend jeans and cardigan kept me plenty warm and comfortable, while the light tee and strappy sandals brought me down from cold weather heaven to the real world of summer. Another aspect that made this outfit appropriate for August and the main theme for this blog post is the color choices. Pastels are mostly seen in catalogs and department stores when flowers are blooming and the sun is starting to shine. But who says that spring is the only time to wear light shades? The mix of a flower petal pink and tiffany blue keeps the outfit looking very airy or fresh, even though there are heavier materials used. I couldn't help but put on a gold thick chain necklace to compliment the 50's business woman look to my fitted cardigan.
Another color choice that I would love for all of you to try is the monochromatic look. Putting a lighter hue underneath a more vibrant color is a look I love! This is one of the simplest fashion looks to achieve. Most of us have multiple clothes in the same color family, so layering them should not be a problem! This can be done with a shirt and jacket as I have, or maybe a top with shorts. If you decide to go with the latter, make sure your shoes and jewelry choices are very neutral. Try this trend out during the week and let me know how it goes! Email or leave your comments below. Also, if you have any fashion questions or post requests, coco has your back!
